Brent Grimes suffers apparent rib injury against Browns

NFL: Preseason-Cleveland Browns at Tampa Bay Buccaneers Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are getting pretty banged up while dominating the Cleveland Browns in their third preseason game. Mike Evans suffered a minor foot injury, but told CBS that he was fine. And now Brent Grimes had to leave the game with what looked to be a rib injury.

Veteran Alterraun Verner replaced Grimes on the outside, with Jude Adjei-Barimah coming in to play the slot on third downs. Vernon Hargreaves is the Bucs’ other starting cornerback.

Grimes had been struggling a little in this game, giving up a deep touchdown to Josh Gordon. An earlier completion to Gordon did not appear to be his fault, though. Grimes has been a little up-and-down this preseason, perhaps a sign of him nearing the end of his career.

We’re not entirely clear on how serious Grimes’ injury is, but he appears to be done for the day. We’ll update you on his status as soon as we know more.
