Buccaneers 53-man roster prediction after the first preseason game

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers held their first preseason game last week, which means we now have a better view of where everyone on the roster stands. So, in other words, we now kind of know what the 53-man roster will look liked. And that means it’s time for another 53-man roster prediction.

Mostly, this one looks the same as the ones we’ve done throughout the offseason. A few things to note, though: J.R. Sweezy is likely to start the season on PUP, causing him to miss the first five games. The upside is that he won’t be taking up a roster spot during that time. I’ve also kept a whole lot of defensive linemen, because the team has a lot of depth and potential there. And, really, they can afford to carry a few going into the season. Linebacker is probably the most uncertain group beyond the three starters, while the receivers should have a nice competition at the bottom of their position group, too.

So here’s my 53-man roster prediction.

Offense (24)

Quarterbacks (3): Jameis Winston, Mike Glennon, Ryan Griffin

Running backs (4): Doug Martin, Charles Sims, Peyton Barber, Mike James

Wide receivers (5): Vincent Jackson, Mike Evans, Adam Humphries, Russell Shepard, Donteea Dye

Offensive linemen (8): Donovan Smith, Kevin Pamphile, Joe Hawley, Ali Marpet, Demar Dotson, Evan Smith, Gosder Cherilus, Caleb Benenoch (J.R. Sweezy on PUP)

Tight ends/fullbacks (4): Cameron Brate, Austin Seferian-Jenkins, Dan Vitale, Luke Stocker

Defense (26)

Defensive ends (6): Noah Spence, Robert Ayers, William Gholston, Jacquies Smith, Howard Jones, Kourtnei Brown

Defensive tackles (4): Gerald McCoy, Clinton McDonald, Akeem Spence, A.J. Francis
