The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have finally waived Garrett Gilkey, a move fans have been clamoring for since 2014. The offensive lineman failed his pre-training camp physical.
The Bucs also placed wide receiver Louis Murphy and guard J.R. Sweezy on the Physically Unable to Perform list, and undrafted safety Elijah Shumate on the non-football injury list. Players can be taken off either list at any time, so this won't have any lasting consequences.
Murphy's presence on that list isn't surprising, as he's rehabbing a torn ACL. Sweezy's presence is a little more problematic as his injury was supposed to be a minor procedure, but had now kept him out for basically the entire offseason so far. That's not exactly ideal for a prime free agent signing.
To compensate for Sweezy's absence, the Bucs signed offensive lineman Joel Hale, a converted defensive lineman who was at the Bucs' rookie minicamp this year.
The Bucs start their training camp on Thursday, with their first open practice on Saturday. Stay with us for all the coverage you need.
