Life is good when you have lots of young, talented players on your team. Life is especially good when one of those players is a quarterback, and USA Today names him the best quarterback under 25, as happened today. In his All Under-25 team, Stephen Ruiz named Jameis Winston the starting quarterback. Good times.
Ruiz also named Kwon Alexander the starting middle linebacker, and Mike Evans a reserve at wide receiver behind DeAndre Hopkins, Odell Beckham Jr. and Allen Robinson. The young receiving talent in the NFL is kind of ridiculous right now.
Curiously, Ruiz omitted Donovan Smith and Ali Marpet, both of whom could have qualified for this team -- though one year of somewhat inconsistent play may not be enough to get on that list.
Lavonte David and Gerald McCoy used to be stalwarts on this team, but both are too old for these honors now. Time flies, to the extent that the window for these two players' prime years may be starting to close already. The Bucs appear to be building a steady pipeline of talented youngsters, supplemented by some veteran free agents, though -- and that's a great recipe for long-term success in the NFL.
