Everyone has opinions on who their favorite team should draft. As does Jameis Winston -- pretty clear preferences even, as he told Pewter Report.
"We (FSU) definitely have the best player in the world in Jalen Ramsey," Winston said "People talk about his position. But Jalen is the best cornerback, safety... I will take a pay cut to play with him again. He has a fierce mentality.
"And the best thing about him is he is a Seminole! I have already shot him (Jason Licht) some texts."
That's nice. It's also not going to happen: Jalen Ramsey's in competition for the top pick in the draft, and the Bucs would have to trade up significantly to be able to draft him. He's one of the most talented defensive backs to enter the league in years, and that in an era where the value of cornerbacks and safeties both have gone up significantly.
Ramsey would fit the Bucs defense, likely as a free safety. He'd certainly fill a need, and he'd improve the secondary tremendously -- at least in terms of raw talent. But trading up for him would likely cost multiple first- and/or second-round picks, and Jason Licht has shown very little desire to trade away his top draft picks over the past two years.
There is one unlikely scenario in which they trade for Ramsey: a trade up involving Mike Glennon might push the total price down far enough to where the price is palatable for Licht. That would be a complicated trade, one unlikely to come together at the last minute. And finding a top-ten team that wants to trade for Glennon instead of draft one of the quarterbacks available to them would be quite a challenge, too.
