ESPN will feature Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Mike Evans tonight in a profile that focuses on the murder of his father 14 years ago. The Tampa Bay Times has a lot of the details, and you'll be able to see it yourself on E:60 at 10 p.m. ET tonight.
Mickey Evans was murdered by Mike's uncle, Sam Kilgore. Mickey Evans abused his wife, Heather Kilgore, and her brother eventually shot him to death over that abuse. Sam Kilgore is now serving a life sentence after killing his cellmate.
"It was tough and a lot of people have tough stories around the world," Evans told the Tampa Bay Times on Tuesday. "It's just that you can't give up. There's no excuse to give up the hand you're dealt. You've just got to keep fighting and make something positive out of it."
The Bucs receiver hasn't spoken much about his childhood and the tragic story, and this is the first time he's gone in-depth, publicly, about his father's murder. He told the Tampa Bay Times that he hopes people can get "a good message" from the story.
