Everyone's impressed by Jameis Winston's weight loss

Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

Jameis Winston has been remaking his body, as has been extensively chronicled this offseason. He was critiqued for his body appearance last year after an unflattering photo appeared on Instagram -- as if any team was going to draft him for the size of his belly, rather than his performance as a passer.

Winston wasn't happy, though, and when he saw all the other quarterbacks at the Pro Bowl show up with absolutely ripped physiques (Peyton Manning wasn't there), he decided to make that his offseason goal. And now he's lost a whopping 18 pounds, according to ESPN's Britt McHenry. His teammates have noticed that, too.

It's all positive: there's no downside to losing some weight and improving your fitness as a quarterback, as long as you retain agility and flexibility as a passer. Winston should be a little faster, though we never really got the impression that his weight was an issue on the field last year.

Of course, the last time a Bucs quarterback went from slightly chubby to chiseled? Josh Freeman in 2011. He was never the same -- though that probably didn't have all that much to do with the whole losing weight thing. Weight loss shouldn't be a problem for Winston, just a positive.
