Buccaneers sign Bryan Anger to five-year extension

NFL: Oakland Raiders at Tampa Bay Buccaneers Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have signed punter Bryan Anger to a multi year contract extension, the team announced. According to Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times it's a five-year contract worth $17 million, making him one of the highest-rated punters in the NFL.

The Bucs signed Anger in free agency this past off-season, after he spent four seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars as their 2012 third-round draft pick.

Anger has been outstanding this season, one of the most consistent Bucs overall and certainly the best punter they've had since at least 2009, and arguably ever. He was named a Pro Bowl alternate and is on pace to set tab records for gross and net punting averages.

In other words, barring some bizarre regression, the Bucs just locked down their punter for the foreseeable future. So that's one thing they won't have to worry about. A little security goes a long way.
