The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have signed running back Russell Hansbrough, and placed tight end Cameron Brate and cornerback Jude Adjei-Barimah on injured reserve, the team announced today.
The signing of Hansbrough was reported earlier today by the Tampa Bay Times, in a report that also stated Doug Martin would be inactive for the team’s season finale. Hansbrough is an undrafted rookie who was with the Bucs this offseason and isn’t nearly the runner Martin is, but he does have the advantage of being a special teams contributor.
As for Brate and Adjei-Barimah, both of them are dealing with somewhat short-term injuries that will keep them out of the final game this week. Given that the Bucs are all but eliminated from the playoffs, there’s no real reason to keep on the roster in hopes that they’d be healthy at some point in January.
Placing these two players on injured reserve allows the Bucs to sign a few practice squad players to the roster in preparation for the offseason, making sure they don’t get poached by other teams in January.
