Well, that’s it. The Houston Texans beat the Cincinnati Bengals, and the Bucs have now been almost completely eliminated from the playoffs.
They cannot win a tiebreaker against either the Green Bay Packers or the Detroit Lions, and the only hope they had was tying one of them for a wild card spot at 9-7. Now, they can only do that if the New York Giants tie Washington on the final Sunday of the year — at least, according to Buccaneers.com.
And yes, there is one tiny scenario where that happens. In all, the Bucs need nine games to go their way, and that includes a tie between the New York Giants and Washington. It’s a tiny, tiny, tiny, tiny chance that could fall apart at any point — but it’s still a chance
So here’s what they need:
To tie the Packers
Cowboys beat the Lions (week 16)
Buccaneers beat the Panthers
Lions beat the Packers
To win strength of victory tiebreaker
Giants tie Washington
49ers beat Seahawks
Titans beat Texans
Colts beat Jaguars
Cowboys beat Eagles
Chiefs beat Broncos (week 16)
