Buccaneers vs. Cowboys predictions

New, comments
NFL: New Orleans Saints at Tampa Bay Buccaneers Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers play the Dallas Cowboys later tonight, in what should be a really good game. The Cowboys have already clinched a playoff berth, while the Bucs are in position to grab one — and a win would go a long way toward securing that spot.

The Bucs and Cowboys are on somewhat opposite trajectories, here. While the Cowboys have been dominant over the season as a whole, they’ve struggled in recent weeks. Meanwhile, the Bucs weren’t doing well at the start of the season, but have now won five straight games.

Both teams are relying on dominant defenses to get the job done, and both teams have somewhat lackluster offenses, at least in terms of recent results. The Cowboys have an offense based around Ezekiel Elliott and the running game, with as dominant an offensive line as you’ll see in today’s NFL, while the Bucs rely a little more on Jameis Winston’s magic.

All of that makes for a game that’s hard to predict. The Cowboys are the clear favorites, according to the oddsmakers, but it’s not hard to envision scenarios where the Bucs end up winning — most of them involving a few Dak Prescott interceptions.

So what will happen? I’m going with a small Bucs win. They’ve specialized in low-scoring, close victories over the past month, and where their defense has been surging, the Dallas offense has struggled. 17-14 seems about right.
