Noah Spence wins Defensive Rookie of the Month

Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive end Noah Spence has been named NFL Defensive Rookie of the Month for November, the NFL announced today. Spence had 11 tackles, 2.5 sacks and two forced fumbles this past month, while the Buccaneers won three of their four games.

Most notable, perhaps, is the fact that the Bucs defense has improved immensely in recent weeks, giving up just 33 total points in the past three games. Spence’s continued improvement has been a major factor there.

Spence was a second-round pick for the Bucs, who were able to grab arguably the best pure pass-rusher in the draft mostly because of off-field concerns that caused him to fall. Spence got kicked out of Ohio State for abusing ecstacy, but his college issues haven’t shown up in the NFL, at least so far. Instead, Tampa Bay got a very impressive and talented young pass rusher at a pretty hefty discount.
