Buccaneers receiver Louis Murphy goes on injured reserve

NFL: Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Washington Redskins Geoff Burke-USA TODAY Sports

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will place wide receiver Louis Murphy on injured reserve (technically Physically Unable to Perform/reserve), head coach Dirk Koetter said today.

The Bucs lost Murphy to an ACL injury last season, and he hasn’t really recovered from that injury. He returned to practice a few weeks ago, but suffered an unrelated setback. Because he returned to practice at the time, the Bucs had to make a decision on his future today: either put him on reserve, meaning he’s out for the year, or add him to the 53-man roster.

The Bucs signed former Philadelphia Eagles receiver Josh Huff to the practice squad today, probably in part to replace Murphy, who now goes on injured reserve.

The Bucs are expected to make a whole bunch of other roster moves today, with Koetter indicating last week that Antone Smith and Howard Jones would be placed on injured reserve. The Bucs have yet to sign anyone to replace them, though Greg Auman of the Tampa Bay Times reported that they’d add undrafted rookie running back Russell Hansbrough to the roster.
