Chiefs lose Dee Ford to hamstring injury against Buccaneers

The Kansas City Chiefs will have to finish their game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers without defensive end Dee Ford. He was ruled out for the game with a hamstring injury in the second half. It’s not clear how serious or long-term that injury is.

Ford leads the league with ten sacks, and was probably the biggest challenge for the Bucs offensive line coming into the game. With him out, the Bucs offense should have an easier time of it — though the offense has actually done well all game, except in the red zone, settling for field goals four times and scoring no touchdowns.

The Bucs have suffered their share of injuries, too. Cornerback Brent Grimes left with a quad injury and has been ruled out for the game, while left guard Ben Gottschalk also had to leave the game with an injury and was replaced by Caleb Benenoch. Gottschalk himself was starting instead of the injured Evan Smith, who was supposed to start instead of Kevin Pamphile, who’s out with an injury. And Pamphile, in turn, was starting because free agent signing J.R. Sweezy has not been healthy all year. So, technically, the Bucs are down to their fifth-string guard right now.
