Buccaneers get a little healthier, Chiefs still banged up

NFL: Atlanta Falcons at Tampa Bay Buccaneers Reinhold Matay-USA TODAY Sports

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers got a little bit healthier today, with center Joe Hawley returning to full participation in practice for a couple of times. Tight end Luke Stocker also returned to practice after missing yesterday. Both of them should be ready to go for Sunday’s game against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Two players who won’t be are running back Jacquizz Rodgers and backup center Evan Smith, both of whom missed their second practice of the week. Both of them are likely out for a couple more weeks, though the impact of those injuries on the Bucs will be limited, as the team has plenty of depth at both positions.

As for the Kansas City Chiefs, they’re hampered by many injuries. Five starters missed their second consecutive practice: edge rusher Tamba Hali , cornerback Marcus Peters, defensive end Jaye Howard, wide receiver Jeremy Maclin and linebacker Derrick Johnson were all out today. At least they got Justin Houston and defensive lineman Dontari Poe back.

This may actually be the first time this season the Bucs have a healthier team than the opposition. How’s that for a surprise?
