Jameis Winston has a nice first: the Tampa Bay Buccaneers just became the youngest NFL player to ever throw for 40 touchdowns over his career, giving the Bucs a 14-3 lead over the Chicago Bears by hitting Cameron Brate in the end zone. That lead has since been extended to 17-3.
Winston has been having an up-and-down season, but he’s having a pretty good game so far. He’s completed 12 of 17 passes for for 137 yards, one touchdown, and one interception, and that one interception was not his fault: he hit Cecil Shorts in the hands, and Shorts just tipped it to a Bears defender. Oops.
Winston has faced a lot of justified criticism this season, though he’s cut down on his interceptions in recent weeks. But it’s good to remember just how young Winston is: at 22, he’s younger than many rookie quarterbacks, despite being midway through his second NFL season. That bodes well for the future.
