Update: According to Pro Football Talk, the Bucs requested a meeting with Lovie Smith by phone at which point he smelled a rat and just asked them to tell it to him straight. A little better.
So, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers apparently fired Lovie Smith over the phone. At night.
Per ESPN's @vxmcclure23 The newly fired Buccaneers coach learned of his fate via a phone conversation, a source told ESPN.
