Buccaneers announce complete 2016 coaching staff

Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have finalized their 2016 coaching staff by officially hiring Brett Maxie as their defensive backs coach. Dirk Koetter retained most of his offensive staff, only making a change at wide receivers coach by hiring Todd Monken, who was also named the offensive coordinator. Monken and defensive coordinator Mike Smith were the two biggest hires on Koetter's coaching staff.

The Bucs changed up almost the entire defensive coaching staff, though, as Smith and Koetter brought in new coaches at every position. The only returning defensive coaches are assistant defensive line coach Paul Spicer and defensive quality control coach Dave Borgonzi. The Bucs also replaced their special teams coordinator, but retained the strength & conditioning staff as well as assistant special teams coach Carlos Polk.

The key to this coaching staff is experience. Every position coach and coordinator has at least a decade's worth of experience, and most have been in the coaching business for 20+ years. The only inexperienced people are quality control and assistant position coaches, which makes for an interesting contrast with the last two seasons when Lovie Smith brought in several inexperienced coaches. Whether this is an improvement remains to be seen.
