The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have signed tackle Reid Fragel to the roster from their practice squad, the team announced today. Fragel replaces Mike James, who was waived yesterday after having had a total of 19 carries and one reception under Lovie Smith, and being inactive the first three games of this season. After two years of not doing anything, James will get the chance
It's not clear why the Bucs decided to promote Fragel. As far as I know, there are no injuries to the current starting or backup offensive linemen -- though today's practice and injury report later today could reveal something more. Fragel did act as the starting right tackle in preseason after Demar Dotson went down and before Gosder Cherilus was signed to take over that role. The Bucs' only backup tackle currently on the roster is Kevin Pamphile and they could use some more depth given Evan Smith's injury.
Meanwhile, Bucs practice squadder Kourtnei Brown was signed to the Houston Texans' roster, according to Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle. Brown was active for one game this year after being picked up off waivers at the end of the preseason -- and the Bucs waived him and then signed him to the practice squad after that one game. The Bucs signed offensive lineman Antoine Everett and tight end Tevin Westbrook to their practice squad to replace Brown and Fragel.
