Injury updates: Tim Jennings said he has a knee bruise, will be fine. Johnthan Banks hurt his left knee. "I'm fine." Said toe stuck in turf.— Greg Auman (@gregauman) September 27, 2015
Tampa Bay Buccaneers cornerback Johnthan Banks has left the game against the Houston Texans with a knee injury, and the Bucs announced his return as "doubtful" -- which is not a good sign. Banks limped off the field after allowing a catch to DeAndre Hopkins as the Bucs defense got worked by Ryan Mallett and Alfred Blue on an early Houston drive.
The Bucs do have decent depth to replace Banks, with Alterraun Verner starting on the bench as Tim Jennings was elevated to the starting lineup. Verner will now have to step in and replace Banks, and he's more than capable of doing so -- though the defense as a whole will have to adjust quickly.
If Banks' injury is long-term, the Bucs can fall back on Mike Jenkins as well -- a talented but inconsistent veteran whom Lovie Smith really likes for his athletic gifts. Jenkins hasn't taken the field this season as he's struggled with injuries, though he is active for this game.
