Update 2: McCoy is fine!
Update: Lovie Smith told TJ Rives after the game that Gerald McCoy strained his shoulder, but don't read too much into that: Smith isn't very forthcoming about injuries.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers beat the New Orleans Saints today for their first win of the season, although they made it unnecessarily close at the end. But there was some bad news along with the good news: Gerald McCoy left the game late in the fourth quarter with a right arm injury that looked eerily similar to the torn biceps that ended his first two seasons in the NFL.
Nothing particularly violent seemed to happen on the play where McCoy was injured, unlike the two plays on which ge was lost for the year early in his career. On those plays his outstretched arm was hit by a downhill running back, while here he was engaged with an offensive lineman and didn't get hit at all. Still, he went off the field with his arm motionless and being held by the trainer -- who was feeling his upper arm on the sidelines later.
We'll have more on this injury as soon as anything is reported, but it doesn't look good from here.
