The Tampa Bay Buccaneers play the Tennessee Titans tomorrow, giving everyone the first opportunity to see both Marcus Mariota and Jameis Winston in action. Given that these two teams earned the number one and two overall draft picks the past year, we can safely say that they were horrible last season. But both the Bucs and the Titans have had promising offseasons and up-and-down preseasons, which suggests we'll see a better game than last year's 2-14 records would suggest.
For the Bucs and Titans both, the key will be getting pressure on the opposing quarterbacks. The Titans are likely to do that by sending zone blitzes, not trying to overwhelm the offensive line with sheer numbers but confusing the protection and Winston by sending back-seven players while dropping front-four players into coverage. The Bucs won't do that as much: they'll opt for a conventional four-man rush and a lot of disguised Cover 2 and Cover 3 behind that rush. The onus will be on Gerald McCoy and company to get Marcus Mariota off his mark.
Personally, I think the Bucs win. Not handily -- but they were the better team last year, and they are likely to be the better team this year. A 20-17 win seems realistic. Give your opinion below!
