Buccaneers training camp: Injuries and takeaways from tenth day of practice

Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

Today's Tampa Bay Buccaneers practice marks the tenth day of training camp, as the team works toward its first preseason game on Saturday. Here are the main takeaways from today's practice.

Injuries, injuries, injuries

Injuries are striking again. Today's absentees: Sterling Moore, Chris Conte (his ninth missed practice in a row), Logan Mankins (illness), T.J. Fatinikun (second day in a row) -- all of that per Greg Auman. And of course, Akeem Spence is still out for several months. At least none of these injuries are too debilitating -- assuming Mankins' illness isn't all that serious.

Bucs Brief also noted that safety Chris Hackett went off with a shoulder injury today.

Your starting offensive line for the day

Ali Marpet was back with the starters today, as was Donovan Smithper Greg Auman. With Mankins absent, Kadeem Edwards got some time with the first-team offensive line -- as did Matthew Masifilo, surprisingly, according to Bucs Brief. Masifilo was a defensive tackle until this offseason, so his getting first-team reps is intriguing.

Danny Lansanah is doing very well

One pick and several pass breakups on the day for Danny Lansanah, who has had a very good training camp and solidly locked up the strongside linebacker job. He's not going anywhere, which is why Kwon Alexander is now focusing on middle linebacker instead.

Jameis Winston is up-an-down

Jameis Winston has been up-and-down throughout training camp, though probably too much is made of his interceptions. After all: we'd expect an aggressive rookie quarterback to turn over the ball quite a bit in training camp. And Winston had plenty of interceptions today -- but his two-minute drill was variously described as "on fire""perfect" and "sweet."
