Junior Galette released, will the Buccaneers pursue him?

Chuck Cook-USA TODAY Sports

Would you like an edge rusher with a combined 22 sacks over the past two years? Because I'm pretty sure the Tampa Bay Buccaneers would, and they can sign him in free agency right about tomorrow. The New Orleans Saints are releasing outside linebacker/edge rusher Junior Galette, who has been a major force for them over the past two years.

There's just one problem: Galette has had a series of disturbing off-field incidents. FIrst, he was charged with and acquitted of domestic violence back in January. Then, a video was uncovered that appeared to show him getting involved in a beach brawl, which included him hitting a woman with a belt. Those issues, along with a pectoral injury, led the Saints to release him despite paying him some $18 million to play a single season last year.

The Buccaneers haven't been shy in going after people with off-field issues, though, and Lovie Smith seems to think that everyone deserves a second chance and/or he can get them on the straight and narrow again. We'll see whether that's the case for Galette -- the Bucs are starved for pass rushers after all.
