The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will announce the latest member of the Ring of Honor tomorrow at 2:00 p.m. The identity of the person to be inducted will probably leak before then, though.
But who will that be? So far, the Bucs have inducted Lee Roy Selmon, John McKay, Jimmie Giles, Paul Gruber, Warren Sapp and Derrick Brooks.
One rumor I've heard focuses on Mike Alstott. I'm not sure that makes sense -- he will be a member of the Ring of Honor at some point, but somehow, this doesn't feel like his kind of year. Perhaps because his retirement ceremony was so lavish, and there are lots of other players who deserve recognition.
Another couple of options: Hardy Nickerson, who is on the staff as a linebackers coach. The late Ricky Bell, who had a very short career but is always mentioned as a big part of the early Bucs, and whose tragic death makes him extra memorable. John Lynch, who's been passed over by the Hall of Fame a couple of times and deserves a little recognition. Tony Mayberry, who was a nine-year starter at center and somehow who doesn't get mentioned nearly often enough. Or pass-rushing terror Simeon Rice, perhaps?
I don't know. Who do you think they'll choose?
