The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will cut returner Solomon Patton today, Aaron Wilson of the National Football Post reports. Patton was one of several players who ended up returning kicks for the Bucs last year, and like everyone else, he didn't do very much. 18 kick returns at 23.1 yards per kick and 10 punt returns at 112 yards per punt don't add up to much. Especially when you factor in his one fumble.
Patton signed with the Bucs as an undrafted free agent out of Florida last year, was briefly cut and then re-signed during the season, and is now out of a job again. Such is life for players at the bottom of NFL rosters.
We should see more moves later today or tomorrow, as the Bucs add those tryout players who stood out in rookie mini-camp, and get rid of those who disappointed. One of the players the Bucs will add is Division III receiver Donteea Dye, as reported by the Tampa Bay Times. He'll presumably be replacing Patton.
