Lovie Smith, Jason Licht praise Jameis Winston's pro day

Phil Sears-USA TODAY Sports

Florida State held its pro day today, and the big draw was Jameis Winston. Televized on NFL Network, Winston went through a lengthy and solid throwing session. The Bucs were on hand with a massive contingent, and they went on the record to praise Winston's performance today. Lovie Smith said they "had quite a few guys here....[Winston] didn't disappoint"," via Greg Auman.

Meanwhile, JoeBucsFan quoted general manager Jason Licht's positive impressions of Winston's workout, filled with superlatives. "Very good. Excellent. Had a great day. ... This was outstanding. He threw a full nine innings." Meanwhile, Licht noted that they'll privately work out Winston at FSU next week, per Kevin O'Donnell.

The pro day ultimately showed us nothing new, but the praise is further confirmation that Jameis Winston really is very, very close to being the first overall pick in the 2015 NFL draft. The Bucs saw nothing to scare them away, continue to praise Winston publicly and appear to be ready to hand in the card already.
