The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are likely to select a quarterback with the first overall pick, and ownership says they're fully onboard with whatever choice the Bucs made. Joel Glazer talked to the media yesterday, and said as much. Via the Tampa Bay Times.
With anybody we're looking to draft, we do an extensive amount of work on their background, history and all that. We spent time with Jameis and Marcus and went into everything into their background. After everything we've done and where we're at right now, we're comfortable where Jameis is at, we're comfortable with Marcus or whoever else it could be.
Other outlets got similar quotes out of Joel Glazer, like JoeBucsFan and the Tampa Tribune.
This squares with what we've heard before: the Glazers are involved and will have to sign off on any player the Bucs draft, but they seem to be on board with either Jameis Winston or Marcus Mariota and will accept whichever decision Jason Licht and Lovie Smith make.
Aside from that, these interviews were a pretty standard exercise in management-speak: non-committal and ambiguous, so they can go either way without being attacked too heavily. It's important to build through the draft, but free agency matters too. They didn't like going 2-14, but they haven't lost faith in Licht and Smith. The standard stuff.
