Jameis Winston nominated for clutch award, snubbed for rookie of the week

Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

Jameis Winston has been nominated for yet another weekly award. It's almost getting boring now. Almost. This time, he's up for the Castrol Edge Clutch Performer of the Week, which is apparently a thing despite no one ever hearing of it. The competition: Cam Newton, Aaron Rodgers, Ryan Fitzpatrick and....Blaine Gabbert. Ahem.

Winston should have a good chance of winning it, what with his awe-inspiring third-and-19 scramble to keep the Bucs alive, and then finishing that drive with a beautiful touchdown to Mike Evans to give the Bucs the win.

Curiously, Winston has not been nominated for any of the NFL's other awards, including the Rookie of the Week award, which he's won three times this year. That's understandable given that his statistics aren't overly impressive, but also a little odd given that his play was actually very impressive.

Regardless, it seems like Winston is on track to win the Offensive Rookie of the Year award if he continues on like this. Marcus Mariota is his closest competition, but the fact that the Titans are godawful will likely see the award go to Winston instead -- even if QB Wins should not be an actual stat.
