Kwon Alexander named NFC Defensive Player of the Week

Jason Getz-USA TODAY Sports

Kwon Alexander has been named the NFC Defensive Player of the Week for his performance against the Atlanta Falcons. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers linebacker had an interception, a forced and recovered fumble and 11 total tackles on Sunday. He also had a second interception negated by an offside penalty on Jacquies Smith.

Alexander did all that despite mourning his little brother, who passed away just days before. The Bucs rallied around him and the emotional responses we've seen from everyone involved have been impressive and heartening.

Alexander is also up for the Rookie of the Week award, and you can vote for him here. He deserves your vote, obviously.

Alexander's entire performance this year has been impressive, and he's a legitimate candidate for Defensive Rookie of the Year at this point. The fourth-round pick beat out free agent addition Bruce Carter for the starting middle linebacker job in preseason, and he's only missed a handful of plays since then.
