Lavonte David named NFC Defensive Player of the Week

Eric Hartline-USA TODAY Sports

Lavonte David has been named the NFC Defensive Player of the Week for his game against the Philadelphia Eagles. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers linebacker recorded two interceptions, six tackles and a touchdown on Sunday in what was his best game this season.

Despite a slow and hesitant start to the season, David has played well in recent weeks and looks to be on track for a career season. He has 80 total tackles, two sacks, two interceptions and a forced fumble this season. Defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier noted last week that David was covering for Kwon Alexander's mistakes at the start of the season, which contributed to his seemingly poor play -- and the fact that Alexander has been more consistent has allowed David to get back to his old self in recent weeks as well.

Hopefully, the Bucs can keep up the quality defensive play they've put on display the past couple of weeks. If David can add a few more splash plays over the next month, the Bucs should have a decent chance of making it into the playoffs.
