Buccaneers sign Lawrence Sidbury, add practice squad players

Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have re-signed defensive end Lawrence Sidbury, the team officially announced. Sidbury spent part of last year and all of the offseason with the Bucs, and has been off and on the roster this year.

The veteran defensive end has five sacks in 49 games (no starts) in his career, none of those sacks coming after 2011 -- though he's only played one game since 2013. With George Johnson suffering a calf injury on Sunday and Jacquies Smith having missed the last few games, the Bucs need some extra depth at defensive end.

With Sidbury's signing the Bucs have filled one of two roster spots they opened by releasing D.J. Swearinger and Orie Lemon yesterday. The team has not yet announced a second signing. They did announce that they added center Josh Allen and linebacker Josh Keyes to the practice squad, both of whom spent time with the Bucs this offseason.
