NFL Draft 2015: Marcus Mariota declares

New, comments
Tim Heitman-USA TODAY Sports

Marcus Mariota has declared for the 2015 NFL draft. The Oregon quarterback announced his decision today, days after his team lost the national championship to Oregon.

Mariota ends a stellar college career that saw him win a Heisman trophy and set many, many team records. The Oregon product is one of the top two quarterbacks in the draft, and should be one of several players the Buccaneers will consider with the top pick in the 2015 NFL draft.

While Mariota's career in college was outstanding, there are some questions about how well he'lo transition to the NFL. Coming from a spread system which did not ask him to drop back from center and did not ask him to make consistent, tight-window throws, he will have to do things in the NFL he hasn't consistently done in college. On the other hand, he has displayed many attributes essential for NFL success, and has no off-field question marks.

The next few months will now consist of fans and the Bucs themselves debating whether to take Mariota first overall. Good fun.
