The Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Carolina Panthers are producing pretty much what we expected: a defensive game.
Lovie Smith's defense set the tone, forcing the Panthers off the field within three plays. The pass rush still struggled to get to the quarterback on the second drive, but the Bucs forced the Panthers to punt on that drive, too. Lavonte David looked like his usual self, which is to say really good. Gerald McCoy showed off his burst, too. Surprisingly, both Mike Jenkins and Johnthan Banks got playing time at cornerback.
The offense did a lot better. Austin Seferian-Jenkins stood out on the first drive with a big, 27-yard catch on third down. But the play of the first quarter was a massive 54-yard run from fullback Jorvorskie Lane on the goal-line. Unfortunately, Josh McCown messed that up with a stupid interception while getting dragged down. Bad McCown!
Here's your second quarter open thread.
