Cam Newton has been officially listed as Questionable on the Carolina Panthers' injury report, after participating fully in today's practice. The quarterback is suffering from a rib injury, but he's widely expected to play. Still, he's officially a game-time decision, and Newton was a little shy about his participation yesterday.
For the Buccaneers, DE Da'Quan Bowers, DE William Gholston, WR Louis Murphy, S Bradley McDougald and CB Rashaan Melvin have all been ruled out for Sunday's game. None of those players are starters, although Bowers, Gholston and Murphy were expected to play relatively large roles as rotational players.
Chris Owusu should get significant playing time in Murphy's stead, while Steven Means and Scott Solomon will have to compensate for Bowers' and Gholston's absence.
Every other Bucs player should be good to go. RB Mike James, CB Mike Jenkins and FB Jorvorskie Lane were listed as Probable, and participated fully in today's practice.
Even Jeff Tedford hasn't been completely ruled out. Lovie Smith noted that he'd been in the building today and has been cleared for limited coaching duties after undergoing an undisclosed surgical procedure last week. If he can't call plays on Sunday he's still likely to assist. In his absence, play-calling will be a collaborative effort with quarterbacks coach Marcus Arroyo actually signaling in the plays.
