The Buccaneers are one game out of first place in the NFC South

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are just one game out of the division lead. The playoff hopes are alive.

Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers beat the Pittsburgh Steelers today. In Pittsburgh. Which is a first for this team: never have they gone to Pittsburgh and won. In fact, they had only beaten the Steelers once before this game: in 1998. But the Bucs managed a win, somehow, and that one win got them something else, too: some playoff hopes.

Sure, the Bucs are just 1-3 now. But 1-3 looks a whole lot better than 0-4. In fact, it means they're just one game behind the division leaders.

with the Atlanta Falcons losing today, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are just one game out of first place in the division. The Carolina Panthers are 2-2, after losing to the Steelers and Ravens. The Falcons are 2-2 after losing to the Vikings and Bengals. And the Saints are 1-2, having lost to the Falcons and Browns -- and they'll be 1-3 if they lose tonight.

Now, truthfully, the Bucs do have a minor issue there: they lost two of their divisional already, and tiebreakers won't be kind to them. But there are four more divisional games to correct that, if necessary. The point is: the Bucs aren't out of the playoff race. Not by a long shot.
