NFL Roster Cuts 2014: Buccaneers cut Jeff Demps, Mike Kafka

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are continuing their roster cuts with Jeff Demps and Mike Kafka today.

David Manning-USA TODAY Sports

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers continued their roster cuts today, waiving quarterback Mike Kafka and running back Jeff Demps. Both players are still eligible to be signed to the practice squad, and the Bucs are almost certainly going to try to get Kafka on there.

Demps' release is a bit of a surprise, as the Bucs had repeatedly emphasized that they loved the running back's speed and potential for big plays. But the former Gator never showed that ability during the preseason, and was sparsely used until the final game, when he was mostly used as an inside runner.

Demps looked like he'd make the roster after injuries to Charles Sims and Mike James, but apparently the Bucs are comfortable going into the season with just two fully healthy running backs. Sims will miss at least the first half of the season, but Mike James could at least be back in time for the first game.

The Bucs have to cut 6 more players before the 4:00 p.m. deadline.
