Buccaneers trail Dolphins 3-0 after one quarter

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers trail the Dolphins 3-0 after one quarter.

Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

The Bucs defense struggled in the first quarter of their second preseason game, with their own offense not doing much and Ryan Tannehill marching down the field for a field goal on his second possession.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers stopped the Dolphins on the first possession, mostly thanks to Ryan Tannehill's somewhat inaccurate throws and Gerald McCoy's pressure on third down. That's what you want to see, but the Bucs struggled to get to Tannehill for most of that drive. That improved slightly on the second drive, with Johnson routinely driving the left tackle back -- but we still didn't see any sacks.

The Bucs offense fared a little better than last week, which is not all that surprising given the disaster we saw then. They went with an up-tempo, no-huddle approach during the first quarter, which was a little surprising. Oniel Cousins is still horrible at left guard, but at least Patrick Omameh at right guard didn't look all that bad.

Here's your second quarter open thread!
