As Tampa Bay Buccaneers fans usually only focus on Tampa Bay Buccaneers stuff, sometimes we do not see some other things that others do see. Pro Football Focus, has an article on the Bucs' Undervalued and Overvalued players. PFF has their model of how to rate players and some tidbit on the top 3 players in each area. I will only list the players and let you follow the link to see in depth of Mr. Jahnke's research work.

Not too surprising on the top of this list is David. Who is surprising on this list is Tim Wright. I had expected him to be of great value, being an undrafted free agent and being the Bucs' second best receiver. Yet, Wright's value differential is quite small. Head over to the PFF link provided in that aforementioned paragraph to identify the differential value. For as bad as a rap Glennon receives often from Buc fans, he is third on this listing. In terms of asset value, Glennon should be kept. But the caveat to that idea is if Glennon is not playing, then in a future 2014 PFF Undervalue and Overvalue list, Mike Glennon will probably not be in it. At least value is recognized in his rookie year.
Quiet Demar Dotson makes the list as the second best value! We do not know much about Dotson besides he is our right tackle. He had a recent interview with Scott Smith on a Buccaneers.com app to where he says he is a lead by example person as there are others who are already loud. Unfortunately, this interview is not available on the official website online. Dotson does feel for his teammates that were released or traded, but at the same time felt great that this organization thought highly enough to keep him. This chart by PFF does give us a hint as to why the Bucs kept Demar, denoting Demar has the second best pass blocking among right tackles to PFF's metrics.

The two surprises on this list are safety Mark Barron and center/guard Jeremy Zuttah. I thought Zuttah had great value as a depth offensive lineman as well as not cost too much for the Bucs. When traded to the Baltimore Ravens, the Ravens restructured his contract as well as extended it. As for Barron, it does seem odd to have both of our starting safeties on this list. Hopefully, Barron breaks out in his third year with the club.
Freeman tops the list of overvalued. Before 2013 season began, Bucsnation often had worries on Freeman and his cost to the team, especially about retaining Freeman. It is safe to say we dodge a huge bullet there to not put this franchise in fiscal irresponsibility.
Of the 10 players listed, five of them are no longer with the team. Freeman was released after week 3 of the 2013 season. After the season, Joseph was released early, Penn was released after acquiring Collins from the Bengals, and Zuttah was traded after EDS signed with the Bucs. Mike Williams was traded to the Bills near the end of the free agency period for a sixth round pick in the 2014 draft due to off field issues that the new regime felt detrimental to the organization.

Here is the PFF author's, Nathan Jahnke, conclusion:
The Buccaneers have one of the worst team value differentials, but it shouldn't be that surprising. You could blame the entire differential on Freeman as well as high paid offensive players who were hurt. It is surprising that a team that has so much invested in their top few players are for the most part wisely spending that money. However it is concerning that four of the five projected starters on the offensive line are amongst the ten most overvalued Buccaneers.
Great thing that the Bucs no longer have three of the four offensive lineman on the overvalued list. Here is how much of the differential value we saved after removing the five players still on the team:

Bucs Nation, what are your opinions of these lists and does it help you comprehend some moves, especially with the frugal meme that new GM Jason Licht seems to promote?
Mr. Licht, I see you subscribe to PFF. I am onto you, sir! And Mr. Jahnke, thank you for all your research!
