Buccaneers sign LB Steven Jenkins, waive RB Michael Smith

A few more roster moves for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as they prepare for rookie mini-camp.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have signed Texas A&M linebacker Steven Jenkins, and waived running back Michael Smith, per Scott Smith. Jenkins was not among the 11 undrafted free agents the Bucs officially signed yesterday, but had previously been reported as one of the team's rookie free agent signings.

Good Bull Hunting's Ranger222 described Askew as a "will linebacker who is quick and not afraid to lay a hit". He supposedly played at 208 lbs. as a linebacker, which is a bit much even for a Tampa 2 scheme. It sounds like he'll be vying for a spot as a backup to the also undersized Lavonte David

The loss of Michael Smith will be sad news for some people, most notably Smith himself. The diminutive speedster was drafted in the seventh round of the 2012 NFL draft and was tabbed to be a change-of-pace back and kick returner. All told, he touched the ball just three times in his two-year career, missing all of 2013 with injury. With Jeff Demps and Charles Sims in the fold, there wasn't much room for him on the roster.
