The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have announced the signing of wide receiver Lavelle Hawkins, who will join a receiving corps consisting of Vincent Jackson. Oh, also Louis Murphy. I guess. Hurray!

Lavelle Hawkins has barely seen the field throughout his NFL career, starting just four games and catching 71 passes over six seasons, for 771 yards and one touchdown. His one productive season came in 2011, when he managed 47 catches for 470 yards with the Tennessee Titans.
The former fourth-round pick has the advantage of being familiar with offensive coordinator Jeff Tedford, who coached him in college. At 5'11", 187 lbs. he mostly seems fit to be a slot receiver. Despite his long tenure in the NFL, he's still just 27, so there's some reason to believe he could be a little productive this season. For now, though, he should be seen as little more than some depth and training camp competition.
