The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have announced their mini-camp dates, with a voluntary mini-camp taking place from Tuesday, April 22 through Thursday, April 24. The rookie mini-camp will be held from Friday, May 16 through Sunday, May 18, while the team will schedule another mandatory mini-camp from Tuesday, June 10 through Thursday, June 12.
The Bucs are allowed to conduct this extra, pre-draft mini-camp because they hired a new head coach this offseason. The pre-draft mini-camp is mostly meant to allow Lovie Smith and his coordinators to install their schemes and familiarize themselves with players on the practice field. The Bucs can also hold any number of mini-camps for rookies during the seven-week period starting on May 16, which is known as the Rookie Football Development Program.
All of these workouts are heavily restricted per the 2011 collective bargaining agreement, with no contact or pads permitted at any of the team's mini-camps, although offense-versus-defense drills are allowed. Below is the general structure of the Bucs' workouts, based on the limits set in the 2011 CBA and Tampa Bay's announced offseason practices.
