Buccaneers re-sign Jonathan Casillas

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have re-signed linebacker Jonathan Casillas.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have solidified their linebacking corps by re-signing linebacker Jonathan Casillas, the team has announced. Casillas battled Dekoda Watson for the starting job at strongside linebacker last year, winning out by midseason but ending the year on injured reserve with a knee injury. Presumably that injury is not too severe, given the fact that the team re-signed the linebacker.

Casillas managed four starts, 24 tackles, two passes defensed and one forced fumbles last year, while being an important player on special teams as well. Casillas is an outstanding athlete who is versatile enough to play well in run defense, coverage and as a blitzer.

With Casillas re-signed, Adam Hayward and Dekoda Watson are unlikely to come back. The Bucs do need depth at the position, however, as they have no quality backups at linebacker. This does mean that they are likely satisfied with Mason Foster as the starter at middle linebacker, however.
