Buccaneers sign Clinton McDonald to four-year, $12 million deal

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have signed former Seahawks defensive tackle Clinton McDonald to a four-year deal worth $12 million, according to Adam Schefter.

McDonald managed 5.5 sacks in a part-time role with the Seahawks last season, which is really ridiculously good production for a player playing just 50.8% of the defensive snaps. McDonald is likely to fit as a backup three-technique with the Buccaneers. Thomas Beekers of Field Gulls calls him an undersized defensive tackle who moves well. "A decent gap-shooting, pass-rushing DT, but doesn't defend the run well. He's a high-motor guy and will give good effort, but he doesn't anchor well."

Danny Kelly of Field Gulls called his re-signing a minor priority, noting that he notched 11 QB hits and 17 pressures, and calls him a "penetrating 3-technique", and a potential backup nose tackle. McDonald seems like a solid signing for depth, and as a rotational pass rusher.

It seems the Bucs will just keep on spending, spending, spending. It's pretty obvious why they want to get rid of Darrelle Revis: they really, really want to revamp half the roster. Or more.

Update: According to Rand Getlin, McDonald's contract includes $4.75 million in guaranteed money.
