Inactives: Buccaneers bench Anthony Collins

The inactives for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Carolina Panthers are in.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are benching left tackle Anthony Collins. The free agent has been a massive disappointment this season, and with the playoffs out of reach the Bucs have apparently decided they've seen enough. They'll move right tackle Demar Dotson to the left side and backup Oniel Cousins will play right tackle. Collins is inactive.

This move might be prompted by injury, but given that Anthony Collins was listed as 'probable' and fully participated in every practice this week, it's probably safe to say this is a benching.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will also be without linebacker Mason Foster, defensive tackle Clinton McDonald and safety Major Wright, as both starters are inactive. Danny Lansanah, Akeem Spence and Bradley McDougald should take their respective starting spots and should not represent a massive dropoff. Tight end Austin Seferian-Jenkins is also inactive, which will hurt the Bucs offense -- though at least Brandon Myers returns this week.

Meanwhile, the Panthers will put Derek Anderson in place of Cam Newton, who's out with a minor back injury suffered in a car accident earlier this week. Newton's absence was announced days ago, and Anderson is no slouch: he comfortably carved up the Bucs in week one, and he can be a solid passer on a good day -- although he can also be horrifically terrible on a bad day.

Buccaneers inactives: WR Robert Herron, WR Solomon Patton, S Major Wright, LB Mason Foster, T Anthony Collins, TE Austin Seferian-Jenkins, DT Clinton McDonald.

Panthers inacties: QB Cam Newton, G Amini Silatolu, RB DeAngelo Williams, CB James Dockery, S Robert Lester, T David Foucault, DT Micanor Regis
