Gerald McCoy named to All-Fundamentals Team

Jerry Lai-USA TODAY Sports

USA Football has given Gerald McCoy his first award of the season: he was named to their All-Fundamentals team, which honors players with...the best fundamentals. The team chose 11 players on each side of the ball, and McCoy's fellow-tackle was Kyle Williams.

This award comes a day after the Bucs announced that McCoy was their nominee for the new annual NFL Sportsmanship award.

Given the fact that the Bucs are now 2-11 and have been eliminated from the playoffs, they're probably going to have to be satisfied with a few individual awards like this. McCoy and Lavonte David are also set to be selected to the Pro Bowl, at least if it were up to fan voting alone.

Speaking of David, why wasn't he named to the All-Fundamentals team? They have to make choices, of course, but not a lot of linebackers outperform David when it comes to the fundamental techniques of the game of football.
