The Tampa Bay Buccaneers activated Charles Sims yesterday, but the rookie running back will not suit up today, according to Adam Schefter. That's a blow to an already-anemic Bucs running game, which will have to miss Doug Martin with an ankle injury, too.
Sims was set to make his debut today after spending all season on injured reserve, designated for return. Apparently he isn't healthy enough to play today, and we'll have to wait until next week for Sims to make his debut. It seems likely Sims will eventually take over the starting role, but he'll have to start getting some playing time first.
With both Martin and Sims out, the Bucs will turn to Bobby Rainey and Mike James as the team's running backs. Rainey should see almost all of that workload, as James has received only 11 carries for 13 yards this season. Rainey's managed 287 yards on 62 carries, as the only Bucs running back to put up a decent per-carry average this year.
