Buccaneers place Kadeem Edwards on injured reserve

Brian Blanco

Injury number really-high-number for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers: rookie guard Kadeem Edwards has been placed on injured reserve with a foot injury, the team announced today. Edwards hadn't played in a single game this season, so this is hardly a huge loss for the immediate future, though it may set back his development.

Edwards was a fifth-round pick, a talented but very underdeveloped player in terms of technique who was expected to take a significant amount of time to learn to play in the NFL. He got a decent amount of playing time in the preseason, but couldn't separate himself from the morass of player competing for the left guard spot, which is why the Bucs eventually traded for Logan Mankins. Edwards will get another chance next season.

The Bucs also released linebacker Denicos Allen from the practice squad. They did not announce any signing to the practice squad or regular season roster, so we can expect that to come later this week.
