Buccaneers vs. Saints Score Update:New Orleans leads 6-0

The New Orleans Saints lead 6-0 after one quarter against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Chuck Cook-USA TODAY Sports

The Saints haven't displayed their explosive offense much, yet. Outside of one big play, they weren't able to produce much against a previously weak Tampa Bay defense. Despite being granted good field position by a terrible Michael Koenen punt and gashing the Bucs' defense all over the field , the Saints walked out of the first quarter with just six total points thanks to some stout red zone defense, especially by Mark Barron covering Jimmy Graham.

Still, Drew Brees has completed 9 of 14 [passes for 118 yards. That's not good enough if you're the Bucs' defense.

On offense, the Bucs were crippled by unnecessary, procedural penalties negating several third down conversions despite some good throws by Mike Glennon. Combined with three drops on the first two drives, and the Bucs' offense effectively stopped itself, but will now have to find a way to get some points on the board.

Here's your second quarter open thread. Go Bucs!
