Buccaneers request permission to interview Tom Gamble for general manager position

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are expanding their general manager search to include even more candidates.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have requested permission to interview Philadelphia Eagles vice president of player personnel for their general manager position, according to Adam Caplan. The Buccaneers will also interview four other candidates over the weekend, with Lionel Vital considered to be the favorite so far.

Gamble has an extensive NFL history as a personnel executive and has an outstanding reputation in league circles. Gamble entered the NFL in 1988 for the Philadelphia Eagles and has since worked for the Indianapolis Colts and San Francisco 49ers. He built most of his recent reputation with the 49ers, serving as their director of player personnel in 2012 and their director of pro personnel for the prior three seasons. He helped build one of the deepest rosters in the NFL during that period.

Similarly, he spent 1998 through 2004 with the Indianapolis Colts under Bill Polian, helping build their roster. He also served as a defensive assistant coach for two seasons with the New York Jets in 1995 and 1996. Gamble will also interview with the Miami Dolphins.

The Glazers appear to be holding a rather extensive search for a general manager, perhaps similar to their search for a head coach in 2012. We've seen six different names as candidates, and that does not include any potential in-house candidates who can be interviewed behind closed doors.
